Arthur the King American Movie Plot Summary:
In 2015, American runner Michael Light and his adventure racing team encountered early challenges in Costa Rica, with their leader’s decision to kayak against the tide. Team member Leo, frustrated with Michael’s leadership, confronts him.
Three years later, in 2018, Michael, dissatisfied with his career, decides to compete in one last race with hopes of victory. He assembles a team including Olivia, a climber with a legacy in the sport; and Chik, an older racer recovering from a knee injury. However, his sponsor insists on adding Leo, now a social media celebrity, to the team. Despite his reluctance, Michael agrees, and the team flies to the Dominican Republic for a five-day race through mountainous jungle terrain.
On the second day of the race, Michael feeds meatballs to a stray dog at the transition camp. Later, in the jungle, the dog reappears and follows the team. During a nighttime trek, the dog saves Leo and the team from falling off a cliff, earning the name Arthur, the King. The team adopts Arthur, but during the final leg of the race, they must leave him behind to kayak. As Arthur attempts to follow, the team rescues him from drowning, delaying their progress and costing them the race. Despite finishing second, they are united by their bond with Arthur. Severely infected by parasites, Arthur’s condition is dire, but Michael refuses to euthanize him, eventually bringing him to the USA for life-saving treatment.
