David and Georgia Cotton are a divorced couple who regret their marriage, which ended 20 years earlierTheir daughter, Lily, after graduating from college, decides to go on vacation to Bali with her friend and fellow graduate, Wren. During their trip, they are left behind by their tour boat while snorkeling and are rescued by Gede, a young Balinese seaweed farmer. Lily and Gede quickly form a romantic connection.
A month later, Lily announces via email that she and Gede are getting married and that she will stay in Bali permanently, giving up her budding legal career. David and Georgia, despite their animosity towards each other, form a truce to try to prevent Lily from making what they believe is a hasty decision. On their flight to Bali, they are surprised to find that the pilot is Paul, Georgia’s boyfriend, who later visits them in Bali to propose to Georgia.
